Sophie has been creating art with glass since 2004. Her graphic design background is reflected in the glasswork. Each piece is carefully designed before being kiln fired in her studio, often multiple times at temperatures ranging from 700 to 805 degrees. Each firing takes about twelve hours.
A minimum of two layers of glass are used in most of Sophie’s work, with the delicate pieces being cut and ground into matching sizes before being fired in her kiln. Special dichroic glass is often added for extra sparkle, with its opal like quality. Simplicity, bold colours and patterns are her signature.
Sophie has worked in a range of glass arts including fused glass, leadlighting, mosaics and copper foiling. Her main focus is jewellery including earrings, pendants, brooches and cufflinks. She also enjoys mosaics and tableware. Seeing her designs worn and loved by others is a real thrill.
