Patricia Danko: Textile Artist

I have been interested in textiles since my mother encouraged my sister an me to make dolls clothes on her treadle sewing machine when I was 6yrs old. I dicovered the pleasure and excitement of hand dying fabrics in the late sixties.

I have re-engaged with dying natural fabrics and am very interested in using natural dyes and then making individual items from the dyed fabrics. I prefer to make one-off items of clothing so each one is an individual item.

Discovering the Japanese methods of mending ‘Boro’, stitching/embroidery Sashiko and dying ‘Shibori’ by wrapping fabrics before dying have enhanced some of my work. I also enjoy recycling men’s shirts into wonderful shirts for people.
