Sophie Byass: Glass Artist

After moving to the Macedon Ranges in 2000, I took up classes in leadlighting, mosaics and a range of glass arts. Making fused glass jewellery became a quick favourite.

My graphic design profession is reflected in my glass work. Each piece is carefully designed and considered before being kiln fired in my studio. Often several firings are needed after grinding back the edges to ensure a professional finish.

Over the years my pieces have morphed from soft forms to a more angular, dynamic style. I like simplicity, bold colours and to let the patterns in the glass speak for themselves.

My creations range from fused glass pendants, earrings, cuff links, brooches and rings, to tableware and mosaics.
